Signaling
As the world faces energy shortage crisis, many governments have implemented various programs to adopt LEDs in traffic lights. For example, nearly 50% of the U.S. LED traffic signal installations subsidized by electric utility subsidy programs. Utilizing LED in traffic signal has the following benefits:
- Energy efficient: uses up to 80% less energy compare to incandescent light sources
- Low maintenance cost: long life span and reliability of LEDs reduces frequency of changing light bulbs, thus reducing the maintenance costs
- High brightness: LEDs emit light within a specific color spectrum, thus eliminates the need of color filter lens, which can reduce the light output. The lens may also fade after long exposure to sun light.
Applications
- Red/yellow/green traffic heads
- Pedestrian crossing signals
- Traffic conditions signals
- Railroad signal
- Freeway safety signal
